Verstappen gives nonchalant interview accepting it cost Hamilton ‘to win a race’

“It wouldn’t have mattered at all for my race because we were too slow. It’s a shame, I thought we could run pretty well together, but clearly the intention wasn’t to race.”

Hamilton is still looking for his first victory of the 2022 season and his last chance will come at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend. The Briton risks losing his record of winning at least one race every year he has competed in F1.

No driver has won more races at Abu Dhabi than Hamilton, who finished first on five different occasions. But Ferrari and Red Bull will be looking for victory with Sergio Pérez and Charles Leclerc fighting for second place in the championship.
