Tottenham tipped to beat Chelsea for Gvardiol deal due to two reasons

Tottenham have been told they could beat rivals Chelsea with the £77million signing of Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig. The Blues came close to completing a deal for the defender in the summer when co-owner and caretaker sporting director Todd Boehly took the spend at Stamford Bridge to over £200m, but other defensive signings came to the club instead.

Chelsea signed Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella, but the Blues were rumored to be in talks over a £77m fee for Gvardiol, although he would have stayed at the Bundesliga club until next summer. After the window closed, the Croatian signed a new five-year deal at Leipzig, although former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton believes Spurs can beat Chelsea on his future signing.

“I don’t see why Tottenham can’t beat Chelsea. [Gvardiol]Hutton said. soccer insider information. “They are definitely in the conversation now, fighting Chelsea, and that appeal is only going to increase with European cups and football.

“I think the player will be more than happy to link up with both clubs. But with [Antonio] Conte could sign a new long-term contract and the progress they are making is something I, as a player, would like to be a part of.”

Conte reportedly requested Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in talks with boss Fabio Paratici, and Gvardiol would be another stellar acquisition. Despite his new contract at Leipzig, the 20-year-old did not rule out a possible departure from the club in the January transfer window.

“I am happy in Leipzig, I still have a lot to learn and I need to work on myself,” Gvardiol said last month. “I have people who take care of that, I didn’t think about a transfer. We’ll see what happens in the winter.”

The Croatian international is adept at both center and left back, and could fit in well on the left side of Conte’s defense if he is not likely to keep Clement Lenglet at the club beyond his loan from Barcelona.
