Tom Jones was not impressed by Bob Dylan’s voice before this song.

Sir Tom Jones’ latest album, Surrounded By Time, saw the pop legend debut at number 1 in the UK, making him the oldest man to achieve such a feat. The 82-year-old artist’s fourth album of covers includes Bob Dylan’s One More Cup of Coffee, a song that originally appeared on the folk singer’s 1976 Desire album. The Welsh singer has revealed why he chose this song for the album and also the American star’s other theme, which made him appreciate it like he never had before.
Previously posting on his Instagram, Jones wrote: “Now this to me, it just reminds you of things you maybe have done that you shouldn’t have done. Or you’ve been to places you shouldn’t have been. You know, when I was young, you’re young and you go places sometimes and you think ‘oh no, I might be out of my league here’. So it’s like ‘One more of this or maybe I’ll try that one more time.’
“So I’m sure we all have stories like that and this is a reminder to try to stay away from temptation, whatever it is that’s tempting for you. So it’s just a reminder to try to fight temptations and get Get out of there before you have to go down into the valley below.
Jones first heard Dylan’s music in the mid-1960s and was initially unimpressed.
In the end, it was one of the folk singer’s most famous songs that convinced Jones how talented his fellow musician was.
Speaking to The Guardian previously, the 82-year-old recalled: “I was on tour in the US in the summer of ’65 with a British group, Peter and Gordon.”
Peter Asher is the brother of actress Jane Asher. Meanwhile, Gordon Waller was a huge fan of Dylan and played his record at the Holiday Inns where they all stayed.

Jones believes the same is the case with Dylan’s 1989 song What Good Am I, of which he recorded a version in 2010.
He added, “What good am I if I sit on the sidelines and let things happen that I know I should change? He was the first singer-songwriter to make me think.”
