Tom Cruise sent a message to Top Gun fans with a death-defying stunt

Earlier this year, Top Gun: Maverick, the long-awaited sequel to the epic 1986 thrill ride starring Tom Cruise, hit theaters. The Hollywood legend returned to the series as the main hero, Maverick, and the movie has done very well around the world. It was recently announced that the film grossed a whopping $1.4 billion at the box office. As a thank you to his fans, Cruise posted a lengthy video on his social media accounts performing a death-defying stunt.

Cruise, 60, greeted his followers on his Twitter and Instagram accounts as he flew in a helicopter thousands of feet above the ground.

He said: “Hello everyone, here we are in sunny South Africa. And we’re filming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning parts one and two. I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for coming to theaters, and thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick”.

Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One is set to hit theaters next year on July 14, 2023. Capping off the incredible blockbuster series, Cruise has once again teamed up with director Christopher McQuarrie to continue the story of Ethan Hunt. .

McQuarrie was also in the helicopter in Cruise’s video. When the Risky Business star gestured toward his boss, McQuarrie interrupted to say, “Listen, we really have to shoot, we have to do this take.”

What followed was a classic Tom Cruise stunt played in real time for the world to enjoy.

Cruise said, “Oh yeah, we’re filming. We’ve got to do this take… See you down there.”

The Interview with the Vampire actor then jumped out of the helicopter and began to free fall towards earth, all while praising his fans for making his movie a success. He said: “As always, thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honor of a lifetime.” [I’m] very lucky.”

The actor then cast a casual glance at the ground he was plummeting towards before saying, “I’m running out of altitude so I better get back to work. We need to take this photo. Have a very safe and happy vacation.” See you in the cinema”.

The camera then panned and showed him spinning into the distance before opening his parachute. Naturally, fans of him went wild over this amazing stunt.

One fan wrote: “This man has my highest respect.” Another asked: “Is Tom Cruise human?”

A third even chimed in to say: “Give the man the Oscar finally. He deserves it.” (sic) Another continued: “This man is a gift.”

Gift or not, fans will see Cruise hit theaters once again next year for the new Mission: Impossible movie. It is a special movie though, as the adventure has been split into two parts for the first time in the series’ history, following in the footsteps of other movies like Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame. Dead Reckoning Part One will be followed by Dead Reckoning Part Two the following year on June 28, 2024.

McQuarrie recently spoke about what this series expansion means for Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, and his decades-long adventure.

McQuarrie told Empire: “The first thing we knew was that if it’s going to be a big two-part adventure, it has to be epic. It’s going to have to be the installment that swallows the rest of the franchise whole. There’s just no other.” . way to do it.”

The film will see the return of some fan favorites from Mission: Impossible, including Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust and Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis.

Dead Reckoning will also feature Marvel star Hayley Atwell, who plays the mysterious character Grace.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One hits theaters on July 14, 2023. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two will be released on June 28, 2024.
