The Substitute Review – A gritty and well written Argentinian drama

Lucio (an excellent Juan Minujín) is a skinless poet who accepts a job as a substitute literature teacher at a tough school in Buenos Aires. The first attempts to engage children with the
the classics fail miserably, but he has a chance to save one of his students when the boy incurs the wrath of local drug lord and mayoral hopeful El Perro.

Dylan (Lucas Arrua) sells drugs for El Perro and commits the cardinal sin of taking them to school and getting caught. When El Perro decides to kill the boy, it is up to Lucio to save the teenager.

While we cover some familiar territory, this raw and sharply written Argentine drama takes us on some very interesting detours.
