The real reason Nick Cannon left America’s Got Talent

NBC didn’t much like one of the jokes Nick Cannon had told on his comedy special, “Stand Up, Don’t Shoot,” which led them to threaten to terminate his contract with the host. By the hollywood reporter, Cannon mentioned “America’s Got Talent” in his skit, saying the show took “his real black card”. She added, “They did! Because then these kinds of people started showing up on my shows,” pointing to a couple of white audience members.

The prank shocked network executives, as Cannon said in a lengthy Facebook publish that they threatened to fire him. “It was brought to my attention by my ‘team’ that NBC believed he was in breach of contract because he had disparaged their brand,” he wrote, adding that he felt the network was trying to silence him. “In my defense, I would ask how is that? Or is it just another way to silence and control an open voice that often fights against the establishment?”

He went on to express how disappointed he was in the actions of the network and because of that, he has no choice but to take his talents elsewhere. “I find myself in a dark place having to make a decision I wish I didn’t have to make, but as a man, an artist, and a voice for my community, I will not be silenced, controlled, or treated like property,” he continued. “There is no amount of money that is worth my dignity or my integrity.”
