Manchester United fans have demanded that the club sign PSV Eindhoven striker Cody Gakpo as he continues to light up the 2022 World Cup with the Netherlands. Gakpo left the spectators drooling with a sensational strike in the opening stages of Friday’s decisive clash against Ecuador.
The Netherlands are battling Ecuador at the Khalifa International Stadium for the honor of topping Group A ahead of MD3 in Qatar. And Gakpo gave Louis van Gaal’s side a dream start in the sixth minute, producing a stunning goal to break the tie.
After receiving the ball at the end of the penalty area, the 23-year-old forward took a touch before firing a left-footed shot past a defenseless Hernán Galíndez. His weaker-footed effort produced his fourth goal in his last five appearances for the Netherlands and he has continued to boost value from him ahead of the January transfer window.
Gakpo also scored the opener in Monday’s 2-0 win against Senegal, timing his run to perfection and beating Edouard Mendy to open up a tense contest. And after the latest contribution from him, many United fans have been quick to take to Twitter to beg the club to recruit another of Ten Hag’s transfer targets.

@Gerardmcc01 said: “If this club is smart then they are doing the deal with Gakpo right now.” As @naicker_theron added: “Gakpo wants to come to Manchester!!! Bring him to the red side!!! What a player!!!”
Meanwhile, @FUTURO_MUFC tweeted: “This Gakpo boy is needed at La Theatre. Bring him in ASAP and let Ten Hag develop him.” @ant78mufc wrote: “I hope the United folks are making deals behind the scenes for Gakpo to come to United immediately after Christmas.”
And @sampilger took to social media to say: “Last summer Erik ten Hag wanted to sell Cristano Ronaldo and sign Cody Gakpo. He knew it.”

Gakpo will reportedly be available for £43m in January, an increasingly attractive price every time he steps onto the pitch. The Dutchman has been directly involved in 34 goals in 28 appearances for his club and his country this season, registering 16 goals and 18 assists.
But with the Glazers looking to sell United in the coming months, it’s hard to see why they would sanction such a high-profile deal. However, by approving a deal for the talented forward, they would be giving Red Devils fans the perfect parting gift after his 17-year tenure at the helm.
