Saudi Arabia’s sports minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, has revealed that he would like investors from his nation to own both Manchester United and Liverpool. Both clubs have been put up for sale by their respective owners in recent months.
After numerous protests from fans, the Glazers announced Tuesday that they were willing to consider offers for the club. The American family has run the Red Devils for 17 years, though the club has struggled during that time.
United have not lifted the Premier League trophy since 2013, Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge of the club before retiring. Since then, the club has gone through several management changes and has invested heavily in new signings, but to no avail.
And Saudi Arabia’s minister, Prince Abdulaziz, feels that having an owner from his homeland own the club could see them improve. asked by sky sports if he would like to see United or Liverpool taken over by Saudi groups, he replied: “I hope so, if there are investors and the numbers add up, and good business is done.

“Then the private sector could enter, or companies from the kingdom could enter. The Premier League is the best league in the world. The whole world is watching the Premier League.
“It is the most watched league and there are die-hard fans of these teams in the kingdom. So it would be a win-win. I can say that we have a strong league. It is not one of the strongest in Asia. You know, we are building towards a better future. And we see how the future looks for that.”
The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) acquired Newcastle United late last year after it was sold by Mike Ashley, and they are quickly making their mark with Toon Army. Despite the immense funds available to the club, the Magpies are gradually improving and currently sit third in the Premier League, with Eddie Howe building a full squad and refusing to overhaul the squad with new signings.
That would be music to United’s ears if they were taken over by a like-minded Saudi consortium, just like Liverpool, although of course they will be two different groups. They will not be alone in their enthusiasm to acquire the Old Trafford outfit, though, as Britain’s richest person, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has a long-term interest in the club and is expected to make an offer.
