Overwatch 2 Year of the Rabbit Release Time, Date, and Patch Notes

Overwatch 2 fans are counting down to the launch of the Lunar New Year event in 2023, not to mention the next update. The Year of the Rabbit Lunar New Year event has a release date of January 17 and a release time of 6pm GMT for fans living in the UK. Running through February 6, the Year of the Rabbit event adds a fresh selection of new skins, as well as new decorations and potentially a limited-time game mode.

According to the Season 2 blog post, the Year of the Rabbit event launches with “new and improved rewards.”

Fans will be able to unlock the next legendary skin by completing in-game challenges. From the sounds of it, you’ll be able to unlock the legendary Kkachi Echo skin, which appears to be making a return to Overwatch.

“Each event this season will have a skin as a reward that you can earn by simply jumping into the fun and completing challenges, this includes Epic Ice Queen Brigitte, Legendary Winged Victory Mercy, and Legendary Kkachi Echo,” explains Blizzard.

You’ll also be able to unlock skins by watching Overwatch 2 streams on Twitch. To do so, simply log into your Battle.net account, open the connections page, and click the Twitch logo to link your accounts.

Elsewhere, there’s a good chance Blizzard will release another game mode for a limited time, though this could interfere with the current Battle for Olympus LTM.

Then there’s the release of the next update, which will make several balance changes to the fan-favorite tank, Roadhog.

According to Overwatch designer Alec Dawson, Roadhog’s one shot capabilities will be altered.

“I mentioned this on the stream, but there were some technical issues with the planned Roadhog changes. Those will be out mid to late January,” Dawson tweets.

“We’re going to reduce his one-shot ability. Later on he’ll get a soft rework that will better position him as a tank for 5v5.”

Check back for the full patch notes later this week.
