The Overwatch 2 Winter Wonderland event may have come to an end, but Blizzard has a new limited-time game mode ready to take its place. As part of the Season 2 festivities, Blizzard is gearing up to release the new Battle for Olympus LTM. If you want to see the new game mode the moment it goes live, you’ll be pleased to know that the Battle for Olympus update has a release date of January 5 and a release time of 6pm GMT in the UK.
As you can see in the trailer below, Battle for Olympus takes its inspiration from Greek mythology.
This includes new skins and abilities inspired by Greek gods and mythological figures. Hopefully, fans will be able to unlock the skins through gameplay.
Widowmaker, for example, takes on the appearance of Gorgon Medusa, with the ability to turn enemies to stone.
Unlike the team-based antics found in traditional Overwatch game modes, Battle for Olympus is a free-for-all deathmatch where the person with the most eliminations wins.
It features seven different characters from Overwatch 2, including Junker Queen, Roadhog, Reinhardt, Pharah, Ramattra, and Lucio.
Blizzard further explains: “Introducing Battle for Olympus, a free-for-all deathmatch mode featuring seven of your favorite heroes with reinvented abilities that channel the power of the gods!”
One of the most exciting aspects of the new mode is the chance for a hero to become immortalized in the game world.
The hero with the most kills when the LTM ends on January 19 will be honored with a statue on Ilios.
If you have a favorite character out of the seven featured in the event, you can help prove they’re the best by racking up as many kills as possible.
It goes without saying that the Battle for Olympus event will have its own set of rewards and challenges, which will be revealed once the update is released.
Battle for Olympus will be followed by the traditional Lunar New Year event, which begins on January 20.
