Next The aspiring James Bond, Jamie Dornan, breaks the silence on the casting of 007

A little over a year ago, Daniel Craig stepped down from the iconic and world-renowned role of James Bond. The actor played 007 for 15 years across five movies, but No Time To Die became his latest adventure. Since then, the search for his replacement has continued and Jamie Dornan has been nearing the top of the list for months. Now, the Irish star has broken his silence on what he really thinks will happen to the character now that Craig is out of the picture.

Dornan, who is best known for playing Christian Gray in the raunchy 50 Shades of Gray film series, was recently questioned by radio schedules about his Bond chances.

The actor nonchalantly replied, “Of course, it’s good to be in those conversations.” However, he hinted that he wasn’t surprised to have been included in the running thus far. “If you’re an actor of a certain age who’s had a good year, it’s inevitable,” he added.

The actor, who also played serial killer Paul Spector in The Fall, added that fans probably won’t know the next Bond actor. He said: “They’ll probably replace Daniel with someone who’s never been on one of those lists.”

At the time of writing, Dornan is among the top ten names in Bond’s odds to replace Craig. Most recently, the star was awarded 18/1 by Ladbrokes for becoming the next version of the hero.

Alex Apati of the bookies said: “Jamie Dornan has been among the top contenders for some time now, and the latest odds suggest he cannot be ruled out entirely.”

If Dornan were to claim the role, he wouldn’t be the first Irish actor to play the British super-spy. Pierce Brosnan previously played the character in four films between 1995 and 2002.

However, Brosnan’s tenure did not end well. Bond bosses Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson had to break the news in 2002 that he was no longer going to be the hero. He remembered the devastating moment when they called him and gave him the news.

Brosnan recalled, “I sat in Richard Harris’s house in the Bahamas, and Barbara and Michael were on the line.” They told him: “We are very sorry.” He recalled: “She was crying. Michael was stoic.”

Wilson told the actor: “You were a great James Bond. Thank you very much.” He replied, “Thank you very much. Goodbye.” The call ended, and so did his stint as James Bond.

Brosnan recalled, “That was it. I was completely shocked and kicked the pavement at the way it fell.”

However, Dornan isn’t the only actor in the race to become the new and improved James Bond.

At the top of the list is Henry Cavill, who has a mighty 7/2 to become the next star (Via Ladbrokes). The Superman actor previously auditioned for the role in 2005, but missed out. Now he is the favorite again.

He recently beat out Bridgerton hunk Regé-Jean Page to the top spot, who is now 4/1 to claim the role.

Apati said: “Henry Cavill edged out Rege-Jean Page over the weekend and now finds himself at the top of the Bond betting after a flurry of interest from 007 bettors.”
