Taron Egerton is one of many names in the race to become the next James Bond star after Daniel Craig stepped down in 2021. No Time To Die marked the British star’s fifth and final appearance as 007, and since then, fans have been betting on who will take his place. Until now, the Bond odds have been the only way to find out who’s in the running. But Taron Egerton just gave fans the biggest casting news yet.
Egerton was recently interviewed by Full movie about his new movie Tetris, where he was asked about his chances of becoming 007. After taking on the role of Eggsy in the Kingsman series, he seemed to fit the role of James Bond perfectly. As a result, his odds on Ladbrokes were cut to 66/1.
This puts him well behind favorites including Henry Cavill and Tom Hardy, but he has even more exciting news for fans.
When Egerton was asked about joining the series, he replied, “Yeah. I mean, I think they already have someone, and it’s not me.”
This is the first time that Bond casting information has been released. If Egerton’s information is correct, then fans have just learned that an actor has been cast as 007 behind the scenes. But who is he?
There are some big names in the race, like the aforementioned Cavill, who is a staggering 5/2 from Ladbrokes. However, there are some doubts about his timing, considering he already missed out on the role in 2005.
Cavill faced off against Craig in a tuxedo battle during the casting call for Casino Royale. But he missed it because he was “too chubby.”
The Superman actor is joined by Hardy, who has a dirty 9/1. However, he previously vowed never to speak publicly about his chances, so fans don’t know his intentions.
The one actor who may have the best shot is also at the top of the Bond odds: Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
The British star recently slashed his odds to 13/8 after rumors claimed he had done some screen tests with Bond bosses behind the scenes.
A source told The Sun: “Aaron went on a screen test to be the next Bond in September and the producers and Barbara loved him. Now he’s one of the favourites.”
