The ongoing race to become the next James Bond has continued to excite 007 fans in recent years, but it could all end. Ever since Daniel Craig’s latest Bond film, No Time To Die, hit theaters, Bond’s odds have been the only indicator of who’s vying to take his place. Aaron Taylor-Johnson quickly became one of the frontrunners this year, but going by some new information from a Hollywood actor, he might already have been cast as the suave behind-the-scenes spy.
Taylor-Johnson has made a name for herself in Hollywood in recent years. In addition to working with Brad Pitt on Bullet Train last year, he also found great success on the Marvel series as Pietro Maximoff. Before that, he played John Lennon on Nowhere Boy.
In January, The Sun reported that he had begun auditioning for 007 with Bond bosses Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson. A source told them: “Aaron went on a screen test to be the next Bond in September and the producers and Barbara loved him. He is now one of the favourites.”
This instantly reduced his odds with leading bookmaker Ladbrokes to a staggering 13/8, making him the favourite. And now, some new information could mean that he has actually been cast as the legendary movie hero.
Taylor-Johnson responded to the Bond rumors in February when she was chatting with vanity fair. She called the rumors “flattering” but went on to dodge the question.
He said: “You can have something really positive [written about you], but there can also be something really negative that can circulate. You just want to stay in your lane, be grounded, be around the people you love and love you, and stay in that world.” He added: “Because the moment you start to believe what people say, you’ve lost the damn head You’ve lost it”.
Egerton was later “pressured” to speak further on the subject, leading him to reveal that he had “never” been a part of the conversation.
Egerton said that neither Broccoli nor Wilson had approached him for the role of Bond. He said: “They’ve never asked about me. I’ve just never been one of the guys who are watching.”
He went on to write himself off, adding, “I think there are many, many better candidates for that role than me,” he explained. “But, you know, he would be a very willing audience member. They’re brilliant movies.”
Elsewhere in the Bond odds is Henry Cavill in second at 5/2 and Tom Hardy in fourth at 9/1, so everything is still on the line.
