Next James Bond candidate, James Norton, gives an update on the future of 007

Daniel Craig stepped down from the role of James Bond in 2021 after playing the hero in five films over 15 years. The void he left means a new actor will be announced to replace him in the coming months, but who will he be? Tom Hardy has been a fan favourite, along with Henry Cavill, both of whom have fantastic odds, but a huge British star has just taken his name out of the competition: James Norton.

Norton is best known for starring in the BBC drama McMafia, as well as appearing in Greta Gerwig’s 2019 remake Little Women. The 37-year-old is a popular candidate in the 007 odds as he is a memorable actor, still relatively young, handsome and looks great in a suit.

However, in a new interview with the Radio Times, he confirmed that it might not be what Bond’s bosses are looking for.

Norton was recently questioned about the possibility of becoming the next James Bond, and if he would be “willing to do it”. He replied: “It is difficult to answer that question.”

Norton added: “They’re thinking about what direction they want to go in and they haven’t called me in to be a part of that conversation.”

While that doesn’t rule him out completely just yet, it doesn’t sound like he’s at the top of the list for Bond bosses Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson. However, Ladbrokes’ most recent bonus odds update still listed Norton as favourite. He was given a mighty 8/1 by becoming the next 007. But, at fourth place, he has a long way to go to make it to the top of the list.

Directly ahead of him is Bridgerton heartthrob Regé-Jean Page, who is a staggering 6/1. The British-Zimbabwean actor previously said he was “flattered” to be included in the race, but stood by his place in the betting.

Ahead of Page is the wonderful Henry Cavill. The former Superman and Witcher actor currently has his schedule completely clear, so becoming the new and improved Bond could be on the cards.

Cavill currently has a strong 5/2 to become Bond. However, he previously lost the role in 2005, so it’s possible he already missed out on it.

The fan favorite Hardy sits fifth at 10/1, but his odds are dwindling each week. Does this mean that his chance to become the next Bond hero is over once and for all?

In another twist that no one saw coming, the new favorite supposedly destined to become 007 is a former Marvel actor.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has become the new favorite in Bond odds. He previously played Pietro Maximoff in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and most recently played Brad Pitt in Bullet Train.

Now he’s been given a staggering 2/1 by becoming Craig’s replacement. As a young British star he certainly fits the mold, but will the fans rally behind him?

Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati said: “We’ve seen plenty of names topping the Bond stakes over the years, but none have been as surprising as current favourite, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who continues to attract interest from 007 punters.” .
