Newcastle owners targeted by scathing assessment of Souness ‘sportswash’

Souness was not the only ITV pundit to speak out against the issues surrounding the Middle East, none more so than the alleged corruption involved with Qatar winning the rights to host the World Cup. Keane joined him in a hard-hitting sports-washing discussion, stating that Qatar should not host because of its treatment of immigrant workers and its attitude towards homosexuality.

“The World Cup shouldn’t be here,” Keane argued. “The corruption, the way they treat migrant workers, gay people, it’s not right,” Keane said. “I think it’s great that it’s been brought up. We’re talking about spreading the game but discounting human rights; it’s not right. They shouldn’t have the World Cup here. You can’t treat people like that.”
