‘Mrs Grealish 69’ returns with a three-word message after hero scores

Jack Grealish put his name on the scoresheet Monday afternoon when he came off the bench to score England’s final goal in their 6-2 thrashing of Iran in the World Cup. And one of the player’s biggest fans, Darcie Philp, who has been nicknamed Ms. Grealish 69 after a soccer jersey she owns, sent a three-word message after the game.

Grealish captured the public’s attention at Euro 2020, picking up two assists in his five appearances as his country reached the final before losing to Italy after a penalty shootout. During the clash with the Italians, Philp was caught on television holding up a shirt with the words “Mrs Grealish 69” written on the back as he showed his admiration for the then Aston Villa star.

And he returned with a new message after Grealish’s last appearance in his country. The player, who joined Manchester City for a British record £100m last summer, struck from close range in the 89th minute against Iran after encouragement from Callum Wilson.

After Grealish’s second goal for England, an editor at Novara Media posted a photo of Philp and his Grealish shirt on Twitter with the caption: “Hope you’re having a great day.” and philp answered with a six-second video of herself celebrating England’s victory while waving the same shirt over her head. And she wrote: “Oh, I am.”

Mehdi Taremi recovered a goal for Iran midway through the second period when he plowed past Jordan Pickford. But Three Lions substitutes Marcus Rashford and Grealish ended the game late, before Taremi added his second goal from the penalty spot 13 minutes after the clock had passed the 90-minute mark.

The result means England move to the top of Group B before Wales’ clash with the United States later on Monday.
