Islam Makhachev became the new UFC lightweight champion on Saturday night at UFC 280 with a second-round submission win over Charles Oliveira via arm triangle choke. The Russian was praised by many for his brilliant display. However, Conor McGregor was not impressed by Makhachev’s display.
In a series of now-deleted tweets, he wrote: “Good fight. good presentation. I have built all the tools to beat this style now Vs b4. experience vs. Face-breaking punches from the clinch and punches from below. And the rest of my repertoire you already know. Left steel leg. “The idea of closing this fighting system with my own developed system is quite intriguing to me. any of them against. It is not personal. It’s a skill test and a fight. Even across generations. The imaafs, amateurs. A war of attrition. to the box
“I have the system to hurt this style of fighting guys that I’m telling you. Bro is athletes as ***. Fat mouth, shut your mouth, you did nothing tonight except go against your father’s wishes and run. Father’s plan is not yet complete, friend. You know. Your people know and talk about you”.
McGregor has been out of action since breaking his left fibula and tibia during his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. The Irishman was expected to return to the Octagon in early 2023, but Dana White has since confirmed that he did not. it will be for at least another six months with Notorious needing to rejoin the USADA testing pool.
McGregor has not been drug tested by UFC partner USADA since the third quarter of last year. As part of the company’s anti-doping policy, implemented in 2015, all contracted wrestlers are subject to random anti-doping tests throughout the year.
