Martin Brundle has raised questions about Daniel Ricciardo’s decision to sign on as reserve driver next season. Brundle stressed that Ricciardo should go to another series and try to win races instead of testing F1 cars.
It comes after Ricciardo has been linked to test driver roles at Mercedes and Red Bull for next season. Said Brundle: “He’s looking for a reserve drive and he has to do what feels right to him.
“I think if you have fallen a bit in love with F1, what you get tired of is the training, the travel, the technical reports and the media work.
“And if you’re going to be a tester, reserve driver, you still have to do all of that and you can’t drive the car. I thought the best thing would be to win Le Mans or something.”

“That’s why I don’t want to jump on the grid again next year, I don’t want to just jump into something. I want to take this opportunity to make sure I have enough time to feel like I need to feel about the sport again.”
Ricciardo had been linked to a third driving role with Mercedes after being spotted at the Silver Arrows hospitality centre. However, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff deflected the comments last time in Mexico when he revealed that Red Bull was also on the cards.
Wolff explained: “I think Daniel is talking to some teams about a potential role, also Red Bull. For us, we like him a lot, he’s a great character, but we’re not in a position yet as to who our third driver will be.”
