Man Utd face big offer to sign ‘Ronaldo replacement’ Choupo-Moting

Manchester United may have to shell out big bucks for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting with Bayern Munich ready to offer the Cameroon striker a terrific new deal. Erik ten Hag, 33, is reportedly the main target for Erik ten Hag to replace Cristiano Ronaldo in January, but he faces the player being barred from signing because of the price as the Bundesliga champions seek keep it at the Allianz Arena.

Choupo-Moting emerged as a target for United this month as the club began to look towards a future without Ronaldo. This was ahead of the Portugal captain’s revealing interview with Piers Morgan, which resulted in his contract being terminated by mutual consent earlier this week. Since then, the search for his successor has intensified and attention is increasingly focused on the Bayern star given his World Cup appearance with Cameroon.

The forward is not an automatic starter for the Bundesliga champions, but he has been an admirable performer every time he has been called up. He has scored 11 goals in 16 appearances in all competitions despite seeing just 852 minutes of match action.

ESPN It has been previously reported that Choupo-Moting was the club’s main target to replace the outgoing Ronaldo and there were high hopes that he could come to a reduced-price deal in January with his contract expiring at the end of the season. However, these plans could be scrapped soon with Bild reporting that Bayern are ready to offer him a new deal.

ONLY IN: Man Utd and Liverpool have warned that Jude Bellingham “may cost £200m”

The player earns around £3m per year at the Bundesliga leaders and they are prepared to offer him more money to extend his stay. No further talks are expected to take place until February, meaning United would still have a window of opportunity to take advantage of the current situation.

The 33-year-old is familiar to Premier League fans, having previously suffered an unsuccessful spell at Stoke during the 2017/18 campaign. Interestingly, he joined PSG after his time at the Bet365 Stadium and then moved to Germany.

Ronaldo’s departure from Old Trafford was confirmed on Tuesday after his second spell at the club turned badly sour. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner issued a statement following the announcement of the decision highlighting his love for the club.

DO NOT MISS IT

“Following discussions with Manchester United, we have agreed to terminate our contract early,” Ronaldo wrote. “I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never change.” However, it seems that the time is right to look for a new challenge.

“I wish the team every success for the rest of the season and for the future.”
