Liverpool told Chelsea their stance on the sale of Mason Mount when the contract was rejected

The Reds broke their careful salary structure to reward Mohamed Salah with a new deal, but they will be wary of offering Mount a similar contract.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool will continue their transfer business along the same lines amid serious turmoil. Fenway Sports Group is considering a full sale of the club after criticism over a lack of spending by owners, while Klopp will have more control over the club’s business.

Julian Ward, who replaced Michael Edwards when the transfer boss left Anfield, is also preparing to leave the club, although he will continue in his role as sporting director at the end of the season.
