Liverpool have been warned that Manchester City are a more likely destination for Jude Bellingham than Anfield. The English midfielder, who shone at the World Cup in a 6-2 win over Iran, is one of the Reds’ main targets ahead of the summer transfer window.
But Bellingham is one of the most sought after prospects in Europe. Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid are possible alternative suitors for the teenage sensation, who doesn’t turn 20 until June.
The former Birmingham prospect has already amassed 19 caps for England and over 100 appearances for Borussia Dortmund. He is expected to collect a fee in excess of £100m in the summer. And Teddy Sheringham has called Bellingham a ‘carbon copy’ of iconic former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.
Bellingham has admitted on several occasions that the former Reds number 8 was his childhood hero. However, former Tottenham and Manchester United striker Sheringham is hoping the player will end up at the Etihad. He told BoyleSports Football: “Jude Bellingham was so impressive against Iran in every department. If Kalvin Phillips had been playing, there was no way he would have scored the first goal.

“Phillips would have been 25 yards back and watching the play unfold. Bellingham had been told to go forward and obviously had the legs to go back. He would be a brilliant signing for any ‘big six’ Premier League club. He’s not a carbon copy of Steven Gerrard, but they are similar in the fact that they both come from deep within.
“In terms of which club suits him, Man United will want him, but City and Liverpool are way ahead of them at the moment. [A move to] City seem the most likely, particularly as Pep Guardiola will stay for another two years.”
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, speaking in his official Youtube channel, has revealed that Liverpool are among a group of clubs currently in contact with Bellingham’s representatives over a move. He said: “It will be almost impossible to keep the player in the summer. He is doing fantastic with England and with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, in the Bundesliga and in the World Cup.

“Bellingham is great everywhere. He is an incredible player and that is why Borussia Dortmund did not want to decide any price before or during the World Cup. The price will be decided after the World Cup and negotiations will take place in 2023.
“Many clubs have had talks with people close to Bellingham but not Dortmund yet. Those clubs are, for sure, Liverpool, they want Bellingham at all costs, Real Madrid is also interested and has had some contacts.
“Manchester City, he is a great friend of Erling Haaland and City will probably look for a midfielder in the summer. Be careful with Chelsea because Bellingham and Frenkie de Jong are two players who are still on Chelsea’s list.
