Red Bull boss Helmut Marko has warned Lewis Hamilton that 25-year-old Max Verstappen will “only get better” after the Dutch driver won his second world championship in as many years. Verstappen was locked in a battle with Hamilton last season by winning his first championship during a controversial final race in Abu Dhabi, but he won the title much more easily this season.
Marko helped Verstappen’s development at Toro Rosso and then Red Bull and believes the Dutch driver is the “best” currently in F1. “We have never been so dominant, this was our best season and Max will only get better,” said the Red Bull boss.
“He has been better this year than ever before. He’s fast, he’s really good on his tires now and he’s got a better look around the car.
“Look at the last race (in Abu Dhabi), he won relatively easily. I really hope it gets even better in the coming years. As a team we have done an outstanding job this season.”

Red Bull was found to have exceeded last year’s budget cap by £1.8m and the FIA punished them with a 10 per cent reduction in wind tunnel and CFD development for next season. Marko has been criticizing the punishment issued by the FIA and says that less time in the wind tunnel will make life more difficult next season.
“It’s simple, there’s no room for mistakes,” added Marko. “We have to be sharper than ever and the motivation to come out stronger in 2023 will only get bigger.”
