Rival team bosses have called for swift action from the FIA and Toto Wolff insists the word “minor” is incorrect to describe the offence. McLaren CEO Zak Brown also wrote a letter to the FIA, stating that Red Bull has no excuse for going over budget.
“The excessive spending violation, and possibly the procedural violations, constitute cheating by offering a significant advantage in technical, sporting and financial regulations,” he wrote. “The FIA has carried out an extremely thorough, collaborative and open process.
“We were even given a one-year dress rehearsal (in 2020), with ample opportunity to seek clarification if details were unclear. So there’s no reason for any team now to say they’re surprised.”
