The Christmas 2022 number one single will be announced later today, Friday December 23rd. The reveal will begin at 4pm during BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart Show with Jack Saunders. The track listing will be announced in descending order, so the official number one may not be revealed until closer to 5:00 p.m. That being said, it looks like there’s only one potential winner this year.
The latest odds from major bookmakers Ladbrokes have given LadBaby an incredible 1/10 chance of taking the number one spot this Christmas.
This is by far the best shot the YouTube sensation has had all year and he can pull off his fifth consecutive number one single. This will also become a new world record, as LadBaby will be the only artist to score five consecutive Christmas hits.
The group’s song is titled Food Aid, a parody of Do They Know It’s Christmas? from Band Aid. track from 1984.
The song’s music video features Martin Lewis singing along with celebrity impersonators posing as Paul McCartney, Adele, and Ed Sheeran.
Like LadBaby’s four previous number-one songs, its proceeds “will be donated to the Trussell Trust”, a charity that funds food banks in the UK.
Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati said: “Things looked to be going south for LadBaby earlier this week, but a fifth successive festive finish now looks entirely on the cards.”
Earlier this week, LadBaby seemed on the verge of losing out to several top contenders.
In an unexpected twist of fate, the Sidemen are currently second in the race for Christmas number one. Another YouTube group, Sidemen, consists of KSI, Miniminter, Zerkaa, TBJZL, and more, as well as a feature by JME.
The Sidemen and their track, Christmas Drillings, are currently 6/1 in taking the top spot this afternoon. They will also donate the proceeds to a charity: Fareshare.
Additionally, 3000 exclusive physical versions of the track were released on HMV earlier this week for £3.99, selling out “within hours”.
If YouTube music groups aren’t your thing, then Wham! they are still in the top five of potential number one Christmas winners.
The George Michael-fronted band’s legendary song Last Christmas currently sits at a meager 12/1 to become the 2022 Christmas number one.
They are joined by The Pogues’ Fairy Tale of New York, which is a not inconsiderable 18/1.
