Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean ‘return’ update spells bad news

Earlier this week, a new report was released about the future of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and how it would reintroduce its biggest star. Johnny Depp played Captain Jack Sparrow in five movies before Disney fired him in 2018. Since then, his fans have been yearning for his return. And on Wednesday, it looked like those hopes were finally coming true.

The report claimed that Depp would return as the swordsman early next year in a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie titled “A Day at Sea.” The source for this report said: “Johnny is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow and is scheduled to start filming in early February at a top-secret location in the UK. It’s all in the early stages and there’s still no a deputy director. the project, which will be called A Day at Sea”.

The report added that Depp was expected to do a “test session” in early February 2023, before production fully began (Via The Sun).

While this news was intensely exciting for Depp fans and Pirates of the Caribbean fans alike, fans quickly gasped.

A follow-up report to the Mail has since been published with an update to the story. And it wasn’t good news for Disney fans.

The second report claimed that a source “confirmed that the information was false.” And with that, hopes of Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean 2023 return in 2023 were dashed.

Fans may not be entirely surprised by this update, considering Depp made his thoughts about returning to the series clear over the summer while in court.

At the time, he was fighting his ex-wife, Amber Heard, in a defamation and defamation lawsuit over an opinion piece she wrote for The Washington Post. Depp believed the article alleged that he had been abusive during her marriage. The American actor claimed that this was the beginning of the end of his career at Disney, since shortly after he was removed from the adventure series.

During the lengthy court battle, he was asked how he would react if he was asked to return to the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Heard’s legal team asked Depp if he would ever return. They asked, “If Disney came to you with $300 million dollars and a million alpacas, nothing in this world would make you go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean movie, is that correct?” He replied, “That’s true.”

Depp was subsequently awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, but the latter amount was later reduced to $350,000 to uphold the state of Virginia’s damage cap.

Rumors have since surfaced that the Pirates of the Caribbean series would be rebooted with a new heroine at the wheel. Margot Robbie then confirmed that she would be the lead in this series, noting that she would include a lot of “girl power”. The Harley Quinn actor also confirmed that Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson would pen the film.

However, in recent weeks, Robbie confirmed that the plans for this film had come to an end.
