John Travolta and Tom Cruise ‘scorned each other’ for Scientology

John Travolta is a member of the Church of Scientology, a religious group led by its leader, David Miscavige. And while he was once a favorite member of the group, things reportedly changed once Hollywood star Tom Cruise started getting involved in the church.

A former Church guard, Brendan Tighe, revealed in 2018 that Travolta grew frustrated with his time in the organization, all thanks to Top Gun star Cruise. The Days of Thunder star has become a major player in the Church of Scientology over the years, becoming one of the best-known members in the world.

It’s no surprise, then, that Cruise was awarded the Miscavige “Freedom Medal of Valor” in 2008. This award is only given to its “most dedicated member.”

Tighe revealed that this event made Travolta extremely “jealous” as he felt that he should receive the award instead. As a result, Travolta ended up hating Cruise, Tighe revealed.

“It’s no secret that Cruise and Travolta despised each other,” Tighe said in 2018. “Travolta was not invited to Cruise’s wedding to Katie Holmes, he told me everything.”

He added that despite Cruise’s enormity in the Church of Scientology, Travolta did not “acknowledge Cruise as superior in any way.”

He continued: “When Cruise got that medal, Travolta was so mad.” Travolta felt that he was the most “dedicated” member of the church.

Tighe said: “The closest person Miscavige had ever said that to before was Travolta, Miscavige told him he was the most dedicated Scientologist and had introduced more members than anyone. So it was like the title was taken away from him, he was jealous “. “

Eventually, Travolta got so upset that he decided to speak out. She decided to write a letter to Miscavige.

He “dictated a scathing letter” to his driver, who wrote the tirade. He addressed it to Miscavige, and it reportedly included the question, “What the hell was this medal about?” (via the daily mail)

But Tighe added that it wasn’t just Travolta who had a problem with Cruise. Apparently, other members of the church weren’t too happy either.

Tighe went on to say that it was “50/50” whether Cruise was “respected” in Scientology.

“When Cruise got the medal,” he continued. “Office of Special Affairs [the Scientology spy unit] I was on high alert for any comments that were negative – it generated a lot of resentment within the ranks of Scientology, they didn’t think he deserved it.”

Neither Travolta nor Cruise have spoken publicly about their feud. But neither have they denied its validity.

While HBO was filming a documentary about the Church of Scientology, both Travolta and Cruise denied any interview or cooperation.
