John Lennon’s fury against Paul McCartney exposed in a foul-mouthed letter

Yoko Ono celebrates her 90th birthday this weekend. Despite the passing of many decades, the artist and musician is still remembered by many as the woman who separated The Beatles. Nothing, of course, is that simple. Divisions within the gang went in all directions for many different reasons, but it’s undeniable that Paul McCartney and John Lennon’s devotion to their respective wives was at the root of some of their fiercest clashes, best expressed in a surprisingly foul-mouthed letter. . .

The letter reveals the bitterly angry feud between former Beatles legends. It’s an extraordinary record of the fury Lennon felt at the way Paul and Linda treated his relationship with Yoko Ono and even returns the insult by saying he doubts his own marriage will last more than a few years.

He wrote: “After all the petty shit that came from your family/crazy in-laws, and GOD HELP YOU PAUL see you in two years I think you’ll be out then.”

Lennon also calls Paul and the Beatles’ manager Allen Klein “c***s”, blaming them for the way they handled the end of the band and telling Linda, “Put that into your petty mind perversion, ma’am McCartney”.

Written in the late 1960s, the incredible rant is a response to a letter sent by Linda. It gives extraordinary insight into the way the band broke up and the splits that followed.

Lennon says he “feels sorry” for Paul for arrogantly placing too much importance on The Beatles, adding: “I don’t think you’re that crazy.” He also dismisses the band’s achievements and impact, saying, “By the way, we’ve had more intelligent interest in our new pursuits in a year than during the Beatles era.”

Lennon defends his rejection of his MBE, implying that he hasn’t lost his ideals, even if Paul has, and it all ends with a fit of anger at Paul and Linda for not sending their letter to Yoko.

The letter was put up for auction on November 18, 2016, and sold for $29,843.45, nearly double the estimate.

THE COMPLETE LETTER: “Dear Linda and Paul, I was reading your letter and wondering which cranky, middle-aged Beatles fan wrote it. I was reluctant to look at the last page to find out. I kept thinking who it was: Queenie? The mother of Stuart? Clive Epstein’s wife.?- Alan Williams?- What the hell, is it Linda!

“Do you really think the press is below me/you? Do you believe that? Who do you think we/are we? The ‘self-indulgent doesn’t realize who he’s hurting’ part: I hope you realize what the f**k”. you and the rest of my ‘kind and selfless’ friends attacked me and Yoko since we’ve been together. Sometimes it could have been a bit more subtle or should I say “middle class” but not often. The two of you “rose above him” quite a few times, and he forgave both of you, so it’s the least you can do for us, you noble folk. Linda, if you don’t mind what I say, shut up! Let Paul write, or whatever.”

“When they asked me what I originally thought about MBE etc., I told them to the best of my recollection, and I remember squirming a bit, didn’t you Paul, or do you, as I suspect, still think so. I’ll forgive Paul for cheer on the Beatles, if he’ll forgive me for the same thing, for being “honest with me and caring too much”! !!

“I’m not ashamed of The Beatles, (I started it all), but some of the things we did to make them so great, I thought we all felt that way to varying degrees, obviously not.

“Do you really think that most of today’s art came about because of the Beatles? I don’t think you’re that crazy, Paul, do you think that? When you stop believing it, you might wake up! Aren’t you? Say we were part of of movement, not all? Of course, we change the world, but try to follow it to the end, DOWN YOUR GOLDEN RECORD AND FLY!”

“Don’t give me that Aunt Gin crap about ‘in five years I’ll look back as a different person.’ Don’t you see that’s what’s happening NOW? If only I knew THEN what I know NOW, you seemed to have missed that point…

“Excuse me if I use “Beatle Space” to talk about whatever I want, obviously if you keep asking the Beatles questions I’ll answer them, and I’ll get as much John and Yoko Space as I can, they ask about me and Paul. answer: I know which part From this it gets personal, but whether you believe it or not, I try to answer directly, and the bits they use are obviously the juicy bits.

“I don’t hold a grudge against your husband, I’m sorry for him. I know the Beatles are ‘pretty nice people’, I’m one of them, they’re also just as big jerks as anyone else. So get off your high horse! indeed, we have had more intelligent interest in our new activities in one year than in the entire Beatles era.”

“Finally, on not telling anyone I left the Beatles, Paul and Klein spent the day convincing me that it was better not to say anything, asking me not to say anything because ‘it would hurt the Beatles’, and ‘let’s just let it stay out’ , remember? So get that into your petty mental perversion, Mrs. McCartney – the morons asked me to shut up about it. Of course, the money aspect is important, to all of us. Especially after all the petty bullshit you’ve been through. it came from your crazy family/in-laws, and GOD HELP YOU PAUL, see you in two years, I think you’ll be out then.

“Despite everything, love to both of us from both of us.

“PS: about sending your letter only to me – STILL…!!!”
