Interview with Prince Andrew announced starring Gillian Anderson

Three years ago, Newnight’s Emily Maitlis interviewed Prince Andrew at Buckingham Palace about his relationship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. What was dubbed a “car crash” interview with the Duke of York’s bizarre claim that he “didn’t break a sweat” is now being adapted into a Netflix movie called Scoop. The behind-the-scenes dramatization is based on Newsnight producer Sam McAlister’s memoir Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews and features an all-star cast.
Gillian Anderson will play Emily Maitlis herself, opposite Rufus Sewell as Prince Andrew. They are joined by Keeley Hawes as Amanda Thirsk, the Duke of York’s former private secretary and Billie Piper as Sam McAlister, who negotiated and secured the bombshell interview.
McAlister herself said: “It is beyond my wildest dreams, especially as a first-time writer, to end up working with this extraordinary cast, Netflix and the amazing teams at The Lighthouse and Voltage. Seeing Billie Piper, one of my favorite actresses, play ‘me’ is going to be a pinch moment and I’m really excited to be in this movie.”
Director Philip Martin added: “I am thrilled to direct this film for Netflix and, along with an extraordinary cast, bring Sam McAlister’s revealing insider’s tale to the screen. Uptempo, immersive and cinematic, I want to take the audience inside the impressive sequence of events that led to the interview with Prince Andrew, to tell a story about the search for answers, in a world of speculation and varied memories. It is a film about power, privilege and different perspectives and how, whether in gleaming palaces or high-tech newsrooms, we judge what is true.”
Scoop, which has now gone into production, has yet to announce a Netflix release date.
