Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie ‘in the works at Warner Bros’

It’s been 12 years since the Harry Potter movies concluded with the eighth installment, The Deathly Hallows Part 2. Since then, Warner Bros. has produced three Fantastic Beasts prequels written by JK Rowling, in what was to be a five-part spin-off franchise. However, following the lackluster box office of Dumbledore’s Secrets last year, the future of that series seems uncertain at the studio.

However, last November, Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav pointed out how profitable the original Harry Potter movies had been for the studio and how he plans to focus on franchises going forward. A month later, well-known leaker WDW Pro tweeted that the studio plans to reboot the original film franchise with a new cast in the next 3-5 years.

In addition to this, there are reportedly plans to adapt the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which opened in the West End in 2016. The story begins with the epilogue 19 years later at the end of Deathly Hallows and follows the adventures from Harry and Draco Malfoy’s sons, Albus and Scorpius, who become good friends.

The source added: “The dream would be for major stars to return, including Daniel Radcliffe, but that is still incredibly far away. Everyone working on Harry’s world wants Daniel back, but first they have to come up with a plan for how many movies there will be, a reworked script, and budgets. The hope at this point is that The Cursed Child can be made into two movies, both with as much impact, if not more, than the stage show.”

Since the play is split into two parts, this makes a lot of sense, but from the looks of it, the movies are still a long way off.
