Graceland’s Antics Upstairs In Elvis’ Room ‘Fans Would Be Shocked’

Having risen to stardom in 1956, Elvis Presley was understandably concerned about his privacy and security when he moved to Graceland a year later. As a result, the King had a special wall built on the mansion’s first floor landing, which today can be seen from the bottom of the main staircase. There’s even a couple of one-way mirrors installed, so he could see exactly who was coming up to see him. It was a great privilege to go there, something that was by invitation only, even for his closest friends.

Graceland may have opened for tours 40 years ago, but the mysterious upstairs remains off-limits to fans to this day out of respect for Elvis, who died in 1977. Friends and family are still alive, though. who have just shared what it’s like up there in their private haven. There’s Lisa Marie’s childhood bedroom, Elvis’ office, her dressing room, and most famously, the King’s bedroom and bathroom, where he suffered a fatal heart attack.

According to ex-girlfriend Linda Thompson, the bedroom is extravagantly decorated in black, red, and gold with windows that never open. Elvis’s oversized black bed was custom built for him with dimensions around 7 by 9 with a mirror positioned behind it. There was a shag carpet, red walls and nightstands, and lamps covered in gold leaf.

The king had a huge TV at the end of his bed and even had one put up on the ceiling so he could lie down and watch without having to sit down. But besides his lovers over the years, close friends would be invited into the room to spend hours on end. Cousin and last surviving original member of the Memphis mob, Billy Smith, along with his wife Jo, have many fond memories of such intimate moments there with his famous relative.

Billy, who is one of the few people alive to have met the real Elvis before he was even famous, has discussed special moments upstairs in the King’s bedroom on his YouTube channel that he hosts with his Memphis mob wife.

Speaking on Elvis Fans Matter, Jo confessed: “It was very comfortable. I remember we used to upload and watch movies on the video player. We watched A Shot in the Dark once until I swear I think I knew every line and it made us really sleepy. We would be Patsy Presley and Billy and me and Gigi and Elvis and whoever was with Elvis. We would get so tired that we would sit at the foot of the bed and lean on the foot of his bed because the TV was right in front of it, like a little platform, for him to watch. Sometimes we would fall asleep and hear: ‘They better not be sleeping!’ and we would jump to the alert!

It’s amazing that they could sleep given how icy she says the King kept her room.

Jo continued: “I was going to get a robe or a jacket or something for you to wear because it kept her room cool. As Lamar would say, you could hang meat in her room and it wouldn’t spoil.”

On the progression of the night, he continued: “We looked [the same movie] over and over and over again and after that he would sit in the middle of his bed and talk and act stupid, act like a fool. People would be surprised at some of the nonsense we did. But it was natural to us and Elvis was just as dumb as everyone else!”

The couple said their favorite thing about El Rey was his great sense of humor, sharing, “I mean I could be dead serious quoting scripture and all of a sudden think of something that would just scare you to death.” laughing”.

Billy said: “If he got into something too deep and thought it was starting to annoy you, then he might make a joke about something and break the ice. And then you’d laugh your ass off.

Jo added: “She had the best laugh in the world. Some of my best memories and best moments at Graceland were when Billy and I and Elvis and Linda were in his room and just let it all go. [come out]. He would have food brought in and we would sit and eat and be silly. It was like a release for him.”

The King and his friends would then talk for hours about the star’s favorite topics, including science, religion, spirituality, numerology, and the paranormal. And when it was time to say goodnight, they all held hands and sang a special protection chant.

This would take place around dawn when Elvis and his friends finally called it a night. In the early 1970s, the King, Linda, Billy and Jo used to sit in the middle of their huge bed and hold hands to sing their protection chant.

The words prompted by the spiritually curious Elvis would be: “Christ love, Christ life, Christ peace.” The star would then ask everyone to visualize a white aura around each person and a dome over the four of them to protect them, their family, and whoever they were thinking of.

To this day, Elvis’s room is preserved as if he just got up and left on August 16, 1977, at the request of his daughter Lisa Marie.
