Gary Lineker mocks Tory MP after giving advice to LGBT fans at World Cup

Gary Lineker has publicly criticized Foreign Secretary James Cleverly for his suggestion that LGBT fans attending the World Cup in Qatar should ensure they are “respectful” of the cultural boundaries of the host nation. He cleverly caused a stir on social media after urging concerned supporters to ‘make some compromises’ during his stay in Qatar, where homosexuality remains illegal and LGBT rights are repressed.
He cleverly made the controversial comments during an appearance on LBCsaying: “I have spoken to the Qatari authorities in the past about gay football fans going to watch the World Cup and how they will treat our fans and international fans. They want to make sure football fans are safe and enjoy “. .
“They know that means they’re going to have to make some compromises in terms of what an Islamic country is with a very different set of cultural norms than ours. One of the things I would say to football fans is, you know, please be respectful of the host nation.
“They are trying to ensure that people can be themselves and enjoy football, and I think with a little bit of flexibility and commitment at both ends, it can be a safe and exciting World Cup. These are Muslim countries, they have points very different cultural starting points for us. I think it’s important when you’re visiting a country that you respect the culture of your host nation.”

Lineker was quick to challenge Cleverly on Twitter Shortly after the comments were made, the Match of the Day host replied, “Whatever you do, don’t do anything gay. Is that the message?”
It comes after LGBT rights activist Peter Tatchell said he had been detained in Qatar while staging a protest outside a museum in Doha, though country officials were quick to say reports of his arrest were “completely false and without merit.” Lineker, meanwhile, also takes issue with Qatar’s attitude towards homosexuality and recently said he expects a player to come out during the World Cup to send a powerful message.
DO NOT MISS IT
“It would be great if one or two of them came out during the World Cup, it would be amazing,” Lineker said. Mirror. “I know for a fact that some have been very close and have seen it. There are a couple that I know of, but obviously it’s not up to me to say who they are.”
“Fear of the unknown, I imagine. Maybe they’re worried about what their teammates might think, though they probably already know that. It seems crazy that it should even be a thing.”
