Gareth Bale refuses to reveal Rob Page’s talk that inspired his return

Gareth Bale has refused to reveal Rob Page’s secret halftime team talk that inspired Wales to a second-half comeback against the United States in the World Cup on Monday night. Wales were completely dominated in the opening period as Timothy Weah put the USA ahead. But Page’s side were much better after the break and clinched a share of the spoils when Bale scored from the penalty spot late on.

“The coach is speaking at half-time, he changed a few things and the boys came out fighting, fighting as always,” the former Real Madrid winger said after the game when talking about the comeback. “A great point from where we were. We showed character like we did in 2021 at Euros and we’re going again.”

And when asked what Page had specifically said at the interval, Bale replied: “Just a few adjustments. Nothing you want to share too much about. We just had to regroup and do what good teams do – come back stronger and show our character again like we always do.”

The World Cup Group B fixture turned out to be a two-half matchup, with Wales coming close on several occasions in the second period. Ben Davies and Kieffer Moore, who had been substituted for Dan James at half-time, nearly scored for Wales as their team advanced. But it was Bale who finally made the breakthrough after being brought down eight minutes from time.
