Cast of Avatar The Way of Water: Who are the cast of James Cameron’s Avatar 2?
Who is in Avatar 2?
Sam Worthington – Jake Sully
Sam Worthington – Jake Sully [returning]
The original protagonist of Avatar, Sam Worthington, returns as Jake Sully, the Marine who is deployed on a mission to find out more about the Na’vi people for the RDA (Resource Development Administration).
He eventually turned his back on his job after becoming attached to the tribe, leaving his body to permanently become a Na’vi after switching sides in the conflict.
In the next movie, we see Jake have started a family with Neytiri, who also returns for the second installment.
Zoe Saldana – Neytiri
Zoe Saldana – Neytiri [returning]
The Na’vi daughter of the previous chief of the Omaticaya tribe, who fell in love with Jake in the first film. In this film, she will have a significantly different role, being the mother of five children, three biological and two adopted, with Jake.
Speaking about working with James Camera, Saldana told Collider: “This is the wonderful thing about working with someone like Jim. Jim expects you to come in with your strong beliefs in what you’re doing.
“Yes, there are passionate speeches that have a lot to do with our project because everyone comes in with a very disinterested mindset. But the moment you yell, ‘That’s an end,’ you don’t take anything home with you because it’s never about, never it gets personal
“So there’s a lot of passion when you really believe in who your character is and where you’re at and what you’re doing, but he says, ‘This is where you need to be to get here.’ And he appreciates it.”
Sigourney Weaver – Kiri
Sigourney Weaver – Kiri [returning/new]
The Cameron’s Aliens star returns as a different character who originally played the now-deceased Dr. Grace Augustine in the original outing. Now, the 73-year-old plays Jake and Neytiri’s adopted teenage daughter, thanks to the magic of motion capture.
In a recent interview, he revealed that Kiri will try to make a connection with Grace, whose avatar he is based on. She explained: “There’s definitely a transfer of curiosity and love of nature. Grace prefers to be in Avatar form and be in the woods and study things, and I think Kiri has a different way of expressing all of that.
“She’s one with nature. And where that comes from, I’m not sure. But she’s very present in the script, and hopefully in the movie you’ll see her trying to make a bigger connection with Grace.”
Stephan Lang – Colonel Miles Quaritch
Stephan Lang – Colonel Miles Quaritch [returning]
The villain from the first film is back, having been resurrected by the RDA as a Recombinant, an avatar with the memories of a human.
He seeks revenge against Jake and will be the main antagonist in all four sequels, confirming that Quaritch is now “bigger, bluer, he’s pissed off.”
Speaking about getting the call to return, Lang told the Indian Express: “James Cameron didn’t promise me that he would be a part of Avatar 2. He informed me that he would be there, I didn’t look for any promises and he didn’t make any.
“At some point he said that the character of Colonel Quaritch was going to return. Of course, he was pleased and excited because you know that at the end of Avatar, there is a certain finality when you take two very large arrows in your chest, you might think that you are done at that point. So it was a huge bonus and a blessing to get that call (from Cameron), and I’m back in a very, very meaningful way.”
Kate Winslet-Ronal [new]
Cameron’s Titanic star joins the cast of Avatar 2 as Ronal, the “deeply loyal and courageous” co-leader of the Metkayina clan.
Her character is “pivotal” to the ongoing story, Winslet said, and required her to learn some new skills, such as learning to hold her breath underwater. Since then, she has broken Tom Cruises record, having learned to hold her breath for seven minutes and 15 seconds.
The role comes decades after the two worked together on Titanic, after which Winslet said she was “genuinely scared” of the director. She said, “He has a temper you wouldn’t believe. You’d have to pay me a lot of money to work with Jim again.”

Curtis–Tonowari Cliff [new]
Cliff Curtis plays the husband of Ronal, the leader of the Metkayina Reef Clan.
Curtis had a busy 2022 as he starred in Muru, the acclaimed Maori-language action drama released in September, which he says has connections to his role in Avatar.
He explained, “I’m really happy for Muru, who is so ingrained in who I am and where I come from. You know, the events in that movie took place about an hour from where I live now and where I grew up.”
“And then I have Avatar: The Way of Water, which is like another galaxy away, both in its story and the way it’s done. But what’s interesting is that the two movies are connected by exploring things around the indigenous experience.” .
Striker CCH – Mo’at
Striker CCH – Mo’at [returning]
Mo’at is the spiritual leader of Omaticaya, considered a wise and powerful being, and is also the mother of Neytiri.
She’s the one who helped Jake move into his Avatar body permanently in the first film, and is expected to play another major role in the second. Now a grandmother of five, it remains to be seen what that role will be.
Flattering Jamie – Neteyam
Jake and Neytiri’s other children: Jamie Flatters as Neteyam, Britain Dalton as Lo’ak, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss as Tuktirey
Other Main Members: Giovanni Ribisi as Parker Selfridge, Edie Falco as General Frances Ardmore, Brendan Cowell as Captain Mike Scoresby, Jemaine Clement as Dr. Ian Garvin, Bailey Bass as Tsireya aka Reya, Filip Geljo as Aonung, Duane Evans Jr as Rotxo, CJ Jones as Metkayina’s interpreter, Jack Champion as Spider, Joel David Moore as Dr. Norm Spellman, Dileep Rao as Dr. Max Patel, Matt Gerald as Corporal Lyle Wainfleet, and Alicia Vela-Bailey as Zdinarsk.
