The 22-year-old burst onto the scene at Benfica and was rewarded with a £113m transfer to Diego Simeone’s side, where he has had mixed success.
His only goal in 15 club games this season came in the Copa del Rey, although he has been stifled at times by the Argentine coach’s defensive mentality, and a change of scenery to Stamford Bridge could perhaps benefit the young Portuguese international.
