England fans at BOXPARK Croydon have been filmed throwing pints of beer in frustration after watching Friday’s lackluster 0-0 draw against the USA. Thousands of people gathered at the venue to watch the Three Lions action in the World Cup but were disappointed after Gareth Southgate’s side looked second best against inferior opposition.
Unsurprisingly, English fans were brimming with confidence that their team would extend their lead at the top of Group B after a thrilling 6-2 win against Iran on Monday. But England produced just three shots on target and were lucky not to concede at the Al Bayt Stadium in their second group game.
Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham were outplayed by the USA four-man midfield of Weston McKennie, Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah and captain Tyler Adams. And Southgate had to rely on a monstrous performance from Harry Maguire to avoid humiliation, with the Manchester United captain making eight clearances, twice as many as any other player.
At full time, boos rang out in the stadium over the result. England fans were down to earth after Iran’s successes, and the US fans knew they could and perhaps should have caused a memorable upset. And the reaction was just as hostile on British soil, with many fans clearly furious with the performance.

BOXPARK in Croydon is used to being drenched in beer and other drinks during an England game for all the right reasons. It has become a tradition during international tournaments for expensive paint to rain down on jubilant crowds as the nation’s soccer heroes hit the ball into the back of the net.
But those who flew the flag at BOXPARK on Friday night were doused with beer for the wrong reasons, with many deciding to throw their pints in anger when the full-time whistle blew. World Cup fever has ground to a halt on British shores after a dismal day for Wales and a sub-par start for England.

There will no doubt be a massive uproar on social media and other coverage of England 0-0 USA, but it feels similar to last summer’s Euro 2020 group stage draw against Scotland. England couldn’t beat Scotland then, but look what they produced later in the tournament.
England will be looking to end Group B on a high note when they take on Wales on Tuesday. The United States fights Iran simultaneously, with the second ranking spot at stake. No one knows how the day unfolds, but it won’t be long before tonight’s exploits are forgotten.
