The Manchester City defender underwent groin surgery last month and there were genuine concerns that he would not make the Southgate squad. But Walker has shown the fitness of his own and even took part in England’s first group training session earlier this week.
The 32-year-old doesn’t expect to be ready to face Iran on Monday, but believes he will be ready to play the United States on Friday. “That depends on the manager,” he said.
“I think the first game is too short, but after that I’ll be good and ready to go.”
