England breathes a huge sigh of relief as Harry Kane is set to play the USA.

England breathed a huge sigh of relief yesterday when Harry Kane was cleared to continue in the World Cup after his scan scare. The Three Lions captain underwent a further medical assessment on Tuesday night after suffering an ankle injury in a 6-2 rout of Iran.
But it’s understood there are no major concerns and Kane has been cleared to play in the tournament and could play the US tomorrow. “He’s probably going to be a little sore, but I think he’s fine,” England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford said.
“He’s on the grass with us today and that’s good. He is our captain and he is fine. Harry is an incredible player, he sets the example in the team, he is a leader, he is the captain and we all admire him”.
James Maddison, who turned 27 yesterday, has not yet trained with the squad and will miss the United States game. Ongoing issues raise concerns about his participation after his main World Cup squad, but England remain outwardly optimistic.
“He’s a great guy Madders and he’s always full of energy, so he’s good on the spot and I think he’ll look to train soon,” Pickford said. Maddison was serenaded by his teammates with a happy birthday chorus at breakfast and cake at dinner.
England will be heavy favorites to win against the USA, but will have to be careful against a team that won a point from a 1-1 draw against Wales in their opening game of the tournament. They could be boosted by the return of Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker, who faced a race against time to get back into World Cup fitness after picking up an injury.
Speaking about his battle to beat the clock and make it to the competition, Walker said: “It’s been long days, I can tell you. Seven or eight at night I’ve been leaving Man City just to make sure I have the conditioning and groin strength to hopefully participate in this World Cup.
“But now I’m fit. I’ve been training for two weeks and I feel strong. Can you replicate what you do on a match day? Of course I can’t, but I feel fine. We need to take some swagger out of the game. Teams like Man City, Barcelona: you go out with your chest in the air and your head held high and you walk thinking ‘we are going to win today’. If you are doubting yourself, you are already losing the game.
“I think you see players like Phil Foden, Mason Mount, Jack Grealish, Declan Rice – these players are not like the ones we’ve seen growing up in the England team, where it’s all about you wearing your heart on your sleeve and going out there. and your hard work helps you get through the games.
“Obviously that is not disrespectful to any of the players. Wayne Rooney, Joe Cole, David Beckham – these players had a variety of talents, but probably not as many as these.
“It’s a joy that the English game is developing in such a way.”
