England boss Southgate delivered a new trump card for Wales’ World Cup clash

Marcus Rashford, Jack Grealish and Jordan Henderson all rose from the bench as the Three Lions chased a goal, but Foden, England’s most technically gifted talent, went unused. Southgate felt that he needed other qualities on the pitch.

“We thought it was the right thing to do, to keep the team from the beginning, and then the wide players with Jack and Marcus ahead of Phil,” he explained.

“We thought that Jack would keep the ball well for us and get us up the pitch and the speed of Marcus, we thought he would be a threat in the latter part of the game as well.”

England are in a strong position to qualify for the round of 16, even if they beat Wales on Tuesday night. But as group leaders, a win over their home country could present a favorable tie in the next round.
