The World Cup in Qatar begins on Sunday and express sport brings fans a free downloadable wall chart for the tournament. England hope to bring the game home by building on successful tournaments under the leadership of Gareth Southgate.

Host Qatar faces Ecuador in the first match after the weekend’s opening ceremony. England will then begin their quest for World Cup glory against Iran next Monday, and the Three Lions will also take on the United States and rival Wales in a tough Group B matchup.

Fans can keep track of every game in the tournament with Express Sport’s wall chart. It is downloadable, printable and includes the entire World Cup schedule from the first group stage matches to the final, which will take place on December 18.

England have not won a major tournament since their 1966 triumph on home soil. They have been so close in the last two major competitions.

The Three Lions were beaten as semi-finalists in Russia four years ago, with two late goals from Croatia knocking out the devastated Southgate stars. England then fared better at Euro 2020, but were beaten in the final on penalties by Italy at Wembley.

Southgate hopes his players will fuel the excitement of playing in a World Cup, as many of his 26 players will be playing in one for the first time. Only 12 survivors of the 2018 World Cup squad remain.

“With the players we want to talk about the excitement of going to a World Cup. We understand the need to comment on the off-field stuff surrounding this tournament, but we want the players to feel that excitement that they’ve had since [they were] kids.

“We want to feed that. The first days we will not be in the training ground, except for a couple [of players] that will have to do something.

“We want them to make the transition from a hectic club schedule to thinking about England. We want to talk to them about the fact that this, whatever happens over the next four weeks, has been the second best spell for English football. We can do is best

“It’s the challenge mentality. How can we take fans on another journey, like the one they loved four years ago and loved last summer? That’s why we do it and that’s what makes playing for England special.”

England arrived at their Al Wakrah training base on Tuesday. Some of the players will participate in open training.
