Elvis’s Last Christmas at Graceland with Lisa Marie – ‘It Was Beautiful’

Like most of us, Elvis Presley loved Christmas and the King didn’t hold back from decorating his Graceland mansion, with lights and Christmas trees on until his birthday on January 8th. The late star’s tradition would be to receive his inner circle. , the Memphis mob, at the house on Christmas Eve for an amazing all-night party.

One of the lucky few to be invited was Danny Smith, the son of Elvis’s cousin Billy, who is the last surviving original member of the Memphis mob. Lisa’s childhood friend Marie Presley previously shared her incredible Christmas experiences at Graceland on her YouTube channel, Memphis Mafia Kid.

In a video, he said: “Elvis loved Christmas and wanted to make sure Graceland was beautifully lit and decorated.” He shared how his heart was racing, saying: “It’s something you just can’t get out of your head, it was beautiful.”

On Christmas Eve, the Memphis mob would arrive at Graceland, where much festive food had been arranged around the mansion for them to enjoy. But the big moment would be when Elvis came downstairs to greet everyone, with Danny saying that he would get chills with anticipation. The King and the other adults would then socialize in the Jungle Room or upstairs in his bedroom.

Meanwhile, Danny, Lisa Marie, and the other Memphis mob kids were free to run around Graceland playing all kinds of games, from hide-and-seek to football.

As for Elvis’s last Christmas at Graceland in 1976, Danny shared how the party went on well into Christmas Day morning. By the end, most of the Memphis mob had gone to bed except for his parents, Billy and Jo, along with The King’s father, Vernon, and his girlfriend, Sandi Miller. They would be hanging out upstairs in Elvis’s bedroom, which to this day stands just as he left it, when he died there in 1977.

Since the adults were still up there, Danny shared how he, Lisa Marie, and the other kids would continue to laugh and play downstairs and even help themselves to some leftover punch. That Christmas, Elvis gave his daughter her own golf cart.

The King had a fleet of these at Graceland and Lisa Marie would end up taking the blame for crashing hers shortly after receiving it as a gift.

Lisa Marie still sees Christmas at Graceland as a very special time of the year and brings her family to celebrate over the holidays. The mansion may be a traveling museum, but it’s still the home of Elvis’s daughter, who sometimes enjoys family dinners there.

When you’re visiting, they bring out their china to serve and fire up the 1970s kitchen appliances. The family eats in the dining room by the front door, and an extra table is added so there’s plenty of room for everyone.
