Elvis Presley’s ex-wife on what she would have thought of Austin Butler

Elvis Presley got the biographical treatment last year in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis. The film told the abridged life story of the King of Rock and Roll, as well as that of his ex-wife, Priscilla Presley. Priscilla was somewhat involved in bringing the story to life, and she has since confessed that she was delighted with the final film. She has now opened up about how Elvis himself would have reacted to the movie.
Austin Butler played Elvis in the 2022 movie and recently told him entertainment tonight that Priscilla was not very welcoming to him at first.
However, after Priscilla saw his work, she reached out and apologized to him via email. She recalled, “I remember Priscilla saying, ‘I know I was hard on you.'” In fact, she even dared to tell the 31-year-old what Elvis would have thought of the star’s performance.
Priscilla told Austin, “Every wink, every move, if my husband were here, I’d be like, ‘Damn, you’re me!'”
Baz also noted that Priscilla had been “disappointed” in the past after seeing different portrayals of Elvis on the big screen.
However, Baz worked tirelessly to bring Elvis to life once again for his film.
“I wasn’t going to make the movie unless I found someone who could play Elvis,” he admitted. “I really didn’t think I could.”
Austin also made quite an impression on Elvis’s only daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, who died earlier this year on January 12, 2023. She suffered cardiac arrest. She was 54 years old.
Austin then opened up about the strong connection he had to the singer and Elvis’s daughter.
He said: “I’ve never had an experience where I met someone and felt an immediate deep relationship with them. She’s also a person who had nothing to prove and didn’t open up to anyone and she opened up. It’s up to me. We got so close and so fast and it’s just devastating.”
Lisa Marie previously praised the film in its entirety, writing on her Twitter account: “Baz your absolute awesomeness combined with your love and respect for my father and this project is so beautiful and inspiring. I know I’m being repetitive but I don’t matter, thank you for setting the record straight in such a profound and artistic way.”
