Elvis Presley’s ex-girlfriend Linda Thompson slams ‘fake’ biopic

Elvis Presley met his last long-term girlfriend, Linda Thompson, in 1972 when she was just 22 years old. At 37, Elvis had lived a long life with many struggles. But, despite the huge age difference, they fell in love. Linda was one of the biggest parts of the star’s life before his death, but she was nowhere to be seen in the Baz Luhrmann biopic.

When Elvis hit theaters earlier this year, the King’s ex-wife, Priscilla Presley, and their daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, were showered with praise. But Linda had a different vision of the role.

“Baz Luhrmann never contacted me,” Linda recently said in a new interview. She went on to call it a “disservice to Elvis.”

Linda also said of the events of the film, “There are a lot of inaccurate and false elements.” In particular, she pointed out, the scenes depicting the last years of her life were not accurate.

Before his death on August 16, 1977, Elvis became dependent on alcohol and drugs. These were major factors in the heart attack he ultimately suffered at his Graceland home.

Linda believes that the details about this part of Elvis’s life were not told correctly in the Luhrmann biopic.

Linda pointed out that whenever he got sick before he died, she would be the person to help him. She said: “Every time Elvis was hospitalized, he shared his room… The film showed his ex-wife, Priscilla, at his bedside. She never even visited him, let alone stayed “.

Linda added, “Those last few years, I saved his life about 10 or 12 times.” She also criticized how Priscilla was portrayed in the film.

The Elvis movie showed that the star’s split with his wife was somewhat amicable. But Linda claimed that just the opposite was true.

Linda said, “I’m glad he saved Graceland for the fans.” In late 1981, Priscilla worked with Elvis’s estate to open Graceland to the public. There, the King has been honored ever since.

Linda also noted, “We are neither enemies nor friends, but always cordial when we meet. [Elvis’ daughter] smooth [Marie] and have kept in touch from time to time over the years.”

Elvis and Linda broke up in 1976, just six months before he died at Graceland of a heart attack.

On their split, Linda said she was “tired” of caring for Elvis after his health began to decline.

She said: “I struggled to accept the other women because I was faithful, but I was so addicted to loving him that I lost myself and what I wanted while he was addicted to drugs – they were his true lover.”

She added: “I was exhausted taking care of him, it was like taking care of a newborn baby. I was afraid that he would die on my watch. When I asked him to reduce his medication, he would say: ‘Don’t worry about me, honey, I’m going to live to be 85′”.
