Elvis Presley star Austin Butler details his ‘grief’ over Lisa Marie

Elvis Presley fans were disappointed this week when Austin Butler didn’t win a SAG Award for his portrayal of the King of Rock and Roll. But Austin went ahead and recently appeared at the Costume Designers Guild Awards on Monday night. When he did so, he paid loving tribute to the King’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, who passed away on January 12, 2023, aged 54. During this tribute, he described the “pain” of the ordeal.
Austin said: “I’ve never felt as close to someone as quickly as I did with Lisa Marie. The first time I met Lisa Marie, we felt like we knew each other before because she had done these scenes saying goodbye to little lisa marie. [in the movie]suddenly now I’m looking at adult Lisa Marie and we both got tears in our eyes and I got the biggest hug.”
The American actor said that after they met, they got together and “talked and talked for hours.” (Through The mail) “He took me to his room at Graceland and sat on his bed,” he recalled. “Those are the things that are the biggest gift of all of this to me.”
The 31-year-old added that he has been in contact with Lisa Marie’s mother, Priscilla Presley, who is also Elvis’ ex-wife. He said that the pain in the family is “strong”.
The feeling was mutual between Austin and the Presley family. Lisa Marie, in particular, was filled with pride to see her father incarnated on the big screen by the young actor.
Before Elvis hit theaters, Lisa Marie saw a preview screening. Soon after, she wrote about her experience seeing her father brought back to life by Austin.
“I want to take a moment to let you all know that I have seen the Baz Luhrmann movie ‘Elvis’ twice,” he told his Instagram followers. “And let me tell you, it’s nothing short of spectacular. Absolutely exquisite.”
She added: “Austin Butler channeled and embodied my father’s heart and soul beautifully. In my humble opinion, his performance is unprecedented and FINALLY done with precision and respect. (If he doesn’t get an Oscar for this, I’ll eat my own foot, haha.)” (sic)
Lisa Marie then opened up about how Austin moved her emotionally with his performance.
She said: “What also moved me to tears was seeing [her children] Riley and Harper, and Finley afterward, all 3 of them visibly overwhelmed in the best way possible, and so full of pride in their grandfather and his legacy in a way I’ve never experienced before.” (sic)
Elvis is available to rent on digital now.
