Elvis’ Austin Butler Dedicates ‘Bittersweet’ Oscar Nomination to Lisa Marie

Elvis Presley never won an Oscar, but eight are now up for grabs in his honor. Austin Butler has already picked up the Golden Globe for his incredible performance, with the King’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, holding back tears as she looked on. Tragically, the 54-year-old died suddenly just two days later. And now the star, who she believed she finally got her father right and is destined to win the Academy Award, is dedicating her nomination to her memory.

Oscar nomination: “I’m not a very early riser, so I’m waking up with you right now. What an exciting way to wake up. I’m still processing it right now. It was such a daunting undertaking to make this film. And it was a very long process too, so I just remember those sleepless nights and all the fear and all the possibilities of how it could have gone wrong. Not just for me, but for all these other amazing artists that worked on the film. Being recognized feels really surreal and amazing.”

Baz wrote on Instagram: “CM [Baz’s wife Catherine Martin] and I’m very excited for all of our great partners who brought ELVIS back to the building. A GREAT collective thanks to the Academy for these nominations.”

The Elvis movie is up for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Sound. Meanwhile, Butler’s main rival in the Best Actor Oscar category is The Whale’s Brendan Fraser.
