Elliott proves the critics wrong as Núñez shines in Liverpool’s win against Saints

Van Dijk still suspicious

Virgil van Dijk has been far from his best this season. The Dutchman was again left out for Southampton’s equalizing goal.

James Ward-Prowse responded to his England snub by taking a fine free kick from the left flank. Che Adams was at the end to overtake Alisson who was rushing.

Joe Gomez let Adams go, but Van Dijk was the closest defender when the striker made contact. Adams got a gear on Van Dijk and was unable to recover.

Jones with work to do

They don’t come much more difficult for a new manager than a trip to Liverpool. Nathan Jones knew he had a difficult task on his hands after replacing the sacked Ralph Hasenhuttl at St Mary’s.

The Saints have struggled in front of goal this season and on the positive side they were dangerous at times, forcing Alisson into action. But Liverpool could easily have scored more at the other end and Jones hopes to use the break to get ideas from him.
