Dust off The Witcher 3, because the PS5 and Xbox Series update is here

If you’re sitting on an unopened copy of The Witcher 3, or just looking for an excuse to play it again, now is the time to turn it on. The long-awaited next-gen update to The Witcher 3 is finally here on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The next-gen makeover improves visuals and frame rates, adds new features, and even a little new content. Best of all, the new Witcher 3 update is completely free to download and install.

According to CD Projekt, the next-gen update brings 60 FPS gameplay to PS5 and Xbox Series X.

That’s on top of new graphics features, including 4K textures and models, plus ray-traced effects to enhance shadows and lighting.

CD Projekt explains further: “Performance mode prioritizes frame rates at 60FPS, while Ray Tracing targets 30FPS and includes Ray Traced Global Illumination, allowing for more realistic lighting, as well as Ray Traced Ambient Occlusion, allowing more precise and effective surface illumination.

“To further bolster these graphical enhancements, you can expect a host of fully integrated community-made mods including 4K models and textures, immersive enhancements, and visual bug fixes.”

A popular feature in visually stunning games like God of War and Horizon Forbidden West, The Witcher 3’s next-gen update also adds a photo mode.

Fans of The Witcher TV series on Netflix will also be pleased to know that CD Projekt has added new content based on the show.

According to the developer, players can select alternate outfits for the Dandelion and Nilgaardian army NPCs, plus different sets of swords and armor for Geralt.

To access the new armor sets, players must first complete a new quest titled In the Eternal Fire’s Shadow.

As an added bonus for PlayStation 5 users, CD Projekt has added a couple of console-exclusive features such as DualSense controller support.

This includes haptic feedback when you perform actions like mounting your horse or throwing signals. When combined with 3D audio, fans can expect a much more immersive experience.
