Disney fans ‘sob’ over new movie featuring plus-size girl

Disney recently released its second season of “short-circuit experimental movies” on its streaming service, Disney Plus. One of the new additions to the streaming platform is Reflect, a heartwarming story about a young woman struggling with body dysmorphia.
Reflect follows Bianca, a girl who attends a ballet class who is not like the rest of her classmates.
Bianca is slightly older than the other members of her class, and in the opening moments of the short film, viewers will see that she is not comfortable with herself.
The teacher in the room lines up her students and demands that they have “a tight belly” and a “long neck.”
Poor Bianca looked sadly at herself in the mirror as she poses at the bar. But before long, everything changes for her, and fans are enjoying it.
Watch Reflect on Disney Plus now.
Before long, a crack appears in her reflection in the mirror on the wall of her ballet class, and a gorgeously animated routine begins to address those difficult thoughts and insecurities.
House of Mouse fans have been overwhelmed by the short, which promotes self-love and acceptance.
One fan said on Twitter: “Me, 16, needed this Disney short before I quit ballet because I didn’t want to be the fat girl in class anymore. Glad the little ones got this. 10/10 for Reflect! !” (sic)
Another agreed: “THIS IS NOT A DRILL! Disney+ FINALLY made a short with a plus-size female lead! It’s called Reflect and it’s part of the Short Circuit series of shorts. Let’s just say I was SOBING.” (sic)
Fans on TikTok added: “As someone who has dealt and is still dealing with this, it’s very heartwarming to see it finally get represented.” (sic)
Another added: “I wish I could have seen this when I was younger! But so happy things are changing!” (sic)
Disney’s new inspirational short for young women comes straight from Hillary Bradfield.
The Disney Animation Story artist has previously worked on Frozen 2, Enchantment, and the television series Tangled.
She is also part of the storyboard team for the upcoming Avatar sequel: Avatar: The Way of Water.
This is not the first time that Disney represents and recognizes bodies of different shapes in its animated films.
The recently released Encanto featured the super strong Luisa Madrigal, who boasted an overly muscular physique.
Disney Pixar’s Seeing Red also delved into the subject of changing and different bodies in adolescents.
Reflect is now available to watch on Disney Plus.
