Daniel Craig ‘wasn’t happy’ playing James Bond, wanted it to end

James Bond star Daniel Craig will hit movie screens once again as Benoit Blanc later this month in the first sequel to Knives Out: Glass Onion. The effervescent detective will work to solve a murder mystery once again in the new movie, but this outrageous detective is a far cry from the super spy he’s been playing for 15 years. Now, one of his Bond co-stars has revealed that Craig welcomed the change.
Craig teamed up with Bond villain star Dave Bautista once again on the second Knives Out film, which hits theaters later this month before moving to Netflix.
In Spectre, Craig went toe-to-toe with Bautista, who played the killer Mr. Hinx, but this time he’s nothing more than a suspect.
The Guardians of the Galaxy star recently opened up about seeing Craig in a new light while filming Glass Onion.
“He really put it off as Bond,” he revealed. “You could feel that he was under a lot of pressure. He didn’t seem like the happiest person in Bond.”
In this new film, however, things were very different.
Bautista said, “But at Glass Onion, it was the complete opposite.”
He then added that Craig was “a lot of fun” while filming the movie.
“He was always smiling and happy and interacting a lot more,” she revealed. “On Spectre, there wasn’t a lot of interaction with the entire cast. But Glass Onion was the complete opposite. We were always together. So I got to know him better as a person and really watched him do his thing.”
The American star, who previously starred in Blade Runner 2049 and was a professional wrestler, also called Craig’s acting prowess “incredible”. (via EW)

Craig also called it “really hard on everyone” when he’s away from home for “at least a year.”
The British star also suffered an injury on the set of Spectre, which left him hospitalized. On this he said: “That call [to my wife], when I say, ‘Hi, I’m hurt, I’m going to the hospital,’ it’s not a good call to make. She felt like she couldn’t do it anymore.”
Eventually, he was talked into returning to the franchise for one more movie, but he had one major stipulation.
Bond bosses Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson later revealed that Craig would only return if his version of James Bond was eliminated.
They are called: “[The idea of killing of Craig’s Bond] it came up again when we were doing Spectre. Because he said, ‘You know, this is it. I don’t want to do more. I think we should kill me. And we were like, ‘Hmmm, don’t believe it. Particularly because we wanted him to do another one. And so we had the ending where he threw the gun away from him and was going to go off and live a happy life.”
After that, they approached him again and said, “You know it’s not the end of the story. You can’t just walk away like this. It’s a great starting point for seeing Bond retired and how he would handle it. So think about it.”
Craig replied, “Okay, I’ll think about it.”
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery opens in theaters on November 23, before hitting Netflix on December 23.
