Cristiano Ronaldo sends a message to Manchester United before the clash with Chelsea

Cristiano Ronaldo sent a message to his Manchester United teammates ahead of Saturday night’s Premier League clash with Chelsea. The blockbuster star has been kicked out of Erik ten Hag’s squad of the matchday as a disciplinary measure after refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham in midweek and leaving Old Trafford before the match was over.

Despite not traveling to West London with the Red Devils team, Ronaldo took Instagram four hours before kick-off to support his teammates. “Let’s go to Manchester United,” he wrote before adding a clapping hands emoji and a flexed biceps emoji. And he accompanied his words with a photo of him and six teammates celebrating a recent goal.

Ronaldo has slipped down the United pecking order under new manager Ten Hag and has only started three senior games this term. The 37-year-old has been overlooked in favor of Marcus Rashford in recent weeks. And the ace faced the wrath of his boss on Thursday following his decision to leave Old Trafford the night before.

United had secured a valuable 2-0 victory against Spurs thanks to goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes. And before their clash with Chelsea, they had risen to fifth place in the Premier League table.

“Especially in elite sport, it’s about today. It’s not about age or reputation. When you’re in elite sport, you’re judged by the moment and how you act, that’s normal. We have to be aware of that, everyone, not just Cristiano, as a team, as a coach and as a club. He has to live like anyone else by certain standards and the standards that we set this season.”

But when asked about a possible Ronaldo departure during the January transfer window, Ten Hag added: “That is speculation. I count on cristian [until the end of the season].”
