Clint Eastwood Turned Down Two Big Hollywood Roles ‘Thank God’

When Sean Connery announced he was stepping back from James Bond after 1967’s You Only Live Twice, EON and producer Albert Broccoli called, with Eastwood at the top of their list to replicate his leading lady’s tough physique and animal magnetism.

The actor revealed: “I was also offered quite a bit of money to play James Bond if I took the part. This was after Sean Connery left. My lawyer represented the Broccolis and he came and said, ‘They’d love to have you.'” ‘”

Eastwood said he didn’t turn down the offer out of fear of pigeonholing him this time, or because it wasn’t his kind of movie: “For me, well, that was someone else’s concert. That’s Sean’s deal. It didn’t feel right to me. to be doing it.”

In the end, notoriously, George Lazenby stepped in for a film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, before surprisingly quitting, partly out of fear of being typecast and an inflated sense of his own career prospects.
